The St. Peter’s Community Children’s Choir Program began as a dream of the rector, James Adams, in 1987. His dream was to institute a choral program open to all children in the community. This program would strive for the highest standards and expose young people to the great music of the Christian faith. Our Children’s Choir began with approximately 12 choristers and has grown into three distinct Children’s Choirs.

  • St. Nicholas Choir (Grades K – 2) is a choir for beginners. Children learn to use their singing voices in a healthy and expressive manner.
  • Junior Choir (Grades 3 – 6) is an ensemble in which children learn skills of singing and musical literacy. Repertoire expands to include two part literature.
  • Senior Choir (Grades 7 – 12) provides advanced training in all areas of musicianship. Repertoire is expanded to include more difficult selections for mixed voice parts.

Each choir sings one Sunday per month at the Choral Eucharist service. Each choir also participates in two annual Concert Series events and have additional performance opportunities in the community and beyond. Every four years, the St. Peter’s Community Tour Choir performs concerts in a number of historic cathedrals through out England. The Community Children’s Choirs have been under the direction of Wendra Trowbridge since 1996. Ms. Trowbridge received her BM and MM in Vocal Performance from Ithaca College School of Music and has previously taught vocal music in the New York public school system. The choirs are accompanied by Mary Ann Hamilton, the Parish Musician. Mrs. Hamilton received a Doctor of Musical Arts from Eastman School of Music and Master of Sacred Music degree from Union Theological Seminary.
