Music
O come, let us sing to the Lord;
Let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation!
Let us come into his presence with thanksgiving;
Let us make a joyful noise to him with songs of praise!
Ps 95:1
Music is central to the ministry of St. Peter’s Church and it plays a large part in our faith and community. We believe that by offering quality music through worship, individuals can deepen their connection with their faith. The deep experience and breadth of musical programming at St. Peter’s lead the parish to establish the St. Peter’s Community Arts Academy in 2005. The Academy’s mission is to reach out and spread the gift of music education to all members of our community.
The parish hosts many music performances during our worship services and special gatherings throughout the year. The Academy’s four Community Choirs have over 100 members. Each choir sings one Sunday per month at the Choral Eucharist service and participates in two annual Concert Series events. Every four years, the St. Peter’s Community Senior (Teen) Choir performs concerts in a number of historic cathedrals through out England.
Dr. Mary Ann Hamilton serves as parish musician. In addition to accompanying the Junior and Senior Choirs, Dr. Mary Ann Hamilton DMA, directs the Adult Mixed Choir as well as the SPCAA Regional Choir in a special Good Friday work with instrumental accompaniment. Dr. Hamilton received a Doctor of Musical Arts from Eastman School of Music and Master of Sacred Music degree from Union Theological Seminary.
The Community Children’s Choirs are under the direction of Wendra Trowbridge. Ms. Trowbridge received her BM and MM in Vocal Performance from Ithaca College School of Music and has previously taught vocal music in the New York public school system.
